Creative writing workshops responding to our 2026 program theme, “Point”

As part of Darebin's creative writing program, inSITU, we’re running free 2- or 2.5-hour workshops which will be facilitated by an amazing group of writers, leading the charge and sharing their wisdom: Chris Ames, Rachel Ang, Hasib Hourani and Adalya Nash Hussein

Find out more about each workshop here:

Across different forms, these workshops all directly relate to the theme for our annual print publication, dSCRIBE. The Workshop Series is an opportunity for you to hone your craft, and work on making your submission for dSCRIBE the best it can be.

The theme in 2026 for both dSCRIBE and the Workshop Series is “Point”.

"Recent issues of dSCRIBE have seen writers following ‘Desire Lines’ and ‘Spiralling’ into the abyss, but now we’re getting straight to the ‘Point’.

Point as in Power____. Point as in ‘It’s rude to ____’. Point as in ‘What is the ____ ?’.

Writing that is purposeful, polemic and sharp (or at least textured). Put on a party hat and a pair of poulaines. Find where X marks the spot and describe it in terms of latitude and longitude, or GPS co-ordinates, or the Jordan Transverse Mercator. Make an obelisk, an asterisk, a shopping list. Consider the tip of the iceberg.

These are all just potential points of departure, it’s up to you to find the endpoint.”
Adalya Nash Hussein, dSCRIBE 19 Editor

This venue is fully wheelchair accessible and has all gender bathrooms.
