Our Carlson and Hextape

A man and a woman lean back to back on each other. They hold stain glass squares in their hands; the woman covers the bottom half of her face with the square. A dark pink hue lays across the picture. The image is purposefully lying on its side.

Presented by On The Road Again, Darebin Arts and 3RRR 102.7FM

Are strobes on the nose?

Weaving storytelling, cello, bass-heavy tracks, sonic and visual portrayals together, Hextape and Our Carlson, centre accessibility in both performance and production. They move through our world of loud and quiet, town cryer, and quiet revolutionary, holding on to analog visuals in an increasingly tech world. Both Hextape and Our Carlson amplify their punk ethos in a fight against the top end of town that they just may win. During this musical conversation, they’ll explore Hextape’s take on Our Carlson tracks, and vice versa. Feel the rush of a solo MRI rave as a thespian narrates across a magnificent stage, strings whirling and puppets furling, for a night to never forget at the Darebin Arts Centre.

About Golden Scissor Puppets

Golden Scissor Puppets was founded in a dank Footscray share house in 2018 by a group of friends with no theatrical experience who wanted to reflect the hopelessness of growing up in the climate crisis. Since its inception, GSP has produced two near-sellout shows, run workshops across Melbourne, and toured interstate. Their first show, ANTHROPOCENE19, told the story of a Trump-fueled apocalypse, followed by HELLMOUTH22 which focused on a post-lockdown world obsessed with billionaires. Their third show, MOTUS IN MORTE, is currently in production and will be hitting the stage this October for Fringe. GSP brings punk rock, DIY puppetry to life, appearing in clubs, festivals and events both locally and interstate, they’re aiming to make weird and original theatre and experiences, especially for freaks like us.
