Announcing a new contemporary music series from February to June 2024 on the Darebin Arts Centre stage, presented by On the Road Again and Darebin Arts.
Music for the Stages is part of On The Road Again, a Victorian Government initiative delivered by Music Victoria to support the return of live music events across the state. Darebin Arts is thrilled to be presenting this contemporary music series at Darebin Arts Centre as part of this program.
Darebin Arts have partnered with local music organisations Music in Exile, Liquid Architecture, Songlines Aboriginal Music and Mistletone to curate a rich program of local and international artists. Showcasing a vibrant mix of voices and genres, this series of four concerts combines each artist’s distinctive sound with stunning visuals that make full use of the theatre format and the intimacy of the Darebin Arts Centre stage.
Mindy Meng Wang, who will launch her collaborative album with Sui Zhen in February as part of the series, said “I’m super excited to perform ‘Origin of You' at Darebin Arts Centre, it means a lot to me. It’s a very special project between me and my best friend Becky (Sui Zhen), and the work is really close to our hearts and our personal experiences. I feel like we have been cared for and supported by Darebin Arts Centre in presenting this work, and it will be a perfect venue to bring such a personal project to a safe place to perform. This work combines story, memory, music, both from China and from western musical cultures. It’s a work that demonstrates the modern diversity of Australia, and I am very proud and excited that this work will be presented on the eve of the Lunar New Year at the Darebin Arts Centre.”
