Bundoora Homestead Art Centre is seeking proposals for exhibitions between October 2025 and October 2026. Artists and curators are invited to submit ideas for group and solo exhibitions, or creative projects suitable for presentation in the galleries of Bundoora Homestead Art Centre.
We especially welcome proposals that:
Engage critically with contemporary ideas and issues
Demonstrate an ongoing engagement with chosen material(s) or method(s)
Are relevant to the Darebin community
Engage with the public in meaningful ways
In 2025-2026, successful projects will be provided with artist and curator fees as detailed below, and will be supported with exhibition space, curatorial advice and marketing free of charge. We strongly encourage applicants to visit the gallery before applying. Solo projects will be presented in the Downstairs Gallery, Gallery 4, or Gallery 5 (floorplan here(PDF, 3MB)) and will be offered an artist fee of $1000 each. Curated group exhibitions will be shown across Galleries 1-3 and will be offered a curator fee of $1000 and artist fees of $3000 to be split between the participating artists. Please read the Bundoora Homestead Art Centre Terms and Conditions before submitting your application.
Applications are due by 2pm AEST on Thursday 13 March 2025.
We strongly encourage applications from First Nations artists, artists from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, d/Deaf and disabled artists and LGBTQIA+ artists.

When making you application consider how your project relates to one or more of our programming aims:
Engage critically with contemporary ideas and issues: Projects that investigate current social, political, environmental and cultural issues. This might involve theoretical, material or lived engagement with these ideas.
Demonstrate an ongoing engagement with chosen material(s) or method(s): Projects that are committed to material or medium-specific investigations. This could include outcomes from concentrated studio-based practices or an experimental approach which pushes the limits of a given medium or method of working.
Are relevant to the Darebin community: Projects that speak to Darebin’s diverse community and the history, trajectory and context of this area. This might include the intersection of local and global issues such as First Nations sovereignty, the environment, migration, housing, the economy, supply chains, food in/security, marginalised communities, and other pressing issues, and whether/how these issues are relevant to the local community. The project may also include reference to particular moments in time or places within Darebin.
Engage with the public in meaningful ways: Projects that use their respective mediums to convey ideas to audiences in a way that is engaging and allows people to expand their thinking on art and the world around them. This may include projects that involve interactivity, participation or have a public program component. We’re looking for projects that are able to convey their ideas with both poeticism and clarity.

Solo exhibition: $1000 artist fee (gallery 4 or 5, or downstairs gallery)
Curated group exhibition: $1000 curator’s fee, plus $3000 artist fee to be split equally among exhibiting artists (galleries 1-3)
Fees will be paid to the artists/curators upon installation of their exhibition at Bundoora Homestead Art Centre
We have exhibition slots available for the following periods:
Marketing of your project including line listings in some media, social media, a profile on the Darebin Arts / Bundoora Homestead website, newsletters and more
Printed exhibition signage and wall labels
Professional exhibition photography (up to five photographs for solo exhibitions and up to 12 photographs for group exhibitions, including installation shots)
Insurance while your work is on premises
Staffing of the exhibition during all gallery opening hours
A catered opening celebration
A Welcome to Country ceremony by an Elder from the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation at the opening celebration
Professional art technicians to assist with installation and deinstallation of your work
Curatorial support and advice
Writers’ fees
Freight and transport
Workshop/event fees
Any other expenses unless agreed to in writing
Insurance of artworks to and from the gallery
Provide marketing copy, promotional images and an exhibition statement according to requirements outlined in the project checklist / timeline provided by the gallery.
Provide a comprehensive list of works (including insurance values) to the gallery.
Seek additional funding or self-fund for freighting/transport, writer’s fees, any display equipment not available at the gallery, and any additional public programs you wish to host during your project in consultation with the gallery.
Devise a floorplan and identify equipment requirements for the project.
Be present at Bundoora Homestead Art Centre during install and de-install of the project, ensuring work is delivered and picked up on time.
Adhere to the project checklist / timeline provided by the Gallery.
Attend and speak at an artist talk once during the exhibition period, should one be programmed.
Ensure work is made accessible to people with a disability (eg. audio descriptions, captions on sound/moving image content), with guidance from the gallery if needed.
Be onboarded to the Darebin financial system and invoice for your artist fee at completion of installation of the exhibition.
Ensure that works in the project adhere to ICIP and moral/intellectual property protocols.
Flag any works that may be deemed sensitive to some viewers.

We’re happy to help anyone who is unable to access the application form online. Please call us on (03) 9496 1060 or email bundoorahomestead@darebin.vic.gov.au or visit us at 7 Prospect Hill Drive, Bundoora VIC to let us know if you require an alternative form of application. This will likely be a paper form, which we can post to you or assist you with filling it out in person. Note that support material will need to be included if applying by post, and post must arrive at Bundoora Homestead Art Centre by the application deadline of Thursday 13 March 2025.
Unfortunately, Bundoora Homestead’s Heritage walls are unsuitable for affixing anything heavier than 2kg. Each gallery has gallery tracking, and any works that need to be hung will need to be fitted with D-rings to hang from our tracking system. We do have a few moveable walls which can be nailed into, however, these will need to be shared across all exhibitions at the Homestead.
Unfortunately, Bundoora Homestead’s Heritage ceilings aren’t able to be hung from. Our tracking system can hold up to 50kg across one wall. We recommend chatting with our Curator before you submit your proposal should your work be heavier than 100kg.
We have a selection of plinths, moveable walls, televisions and media players, and two projectors with sound equipment. We have one large glass cabinet with three shelves. We also have a tracking system for hanging paintings and framed (or unframed) works fitted with D-rings.
Yes! We welcome inclusion of public programs as part of your project, including artist talks, short seminars, professional development opportunities for our audiences or workshops. However, you will need to seek additional funding for any public programs.
We will let both successful and unsuccessful applicants know by April 2025.
We have a range of opportunities, including this EOI. Every two years, we host the A1 Darebin Art Salon which is open to people who live, work, study or base their art practice in Darebin. Every alternate year, we host the Darebin Art Prize, which is open to practicing artists from across Australia. Other artist opportunities can be found on the Darebin Arts website here. Exhibition proposals will be assessed by a panel comprising the Bundoora Homestead Art Centre Coordinator, Curator, and external arts professionals covering artistic and curatorial expertise.
A creative CV should include a list of projects that relate to your practice over the time that you have been practicing. They can also include relevant work experience, successful grants, fellowships or formal and informal education.
We want our exhibitions and creative projects to be as accessible as possible to a wide range of audiences, which means that marketing or exhibition copy should be written in plain English (not art-speak). You can use the Hemingway Editor (https://hemingwayapp.com/) to write into, and ensure that ‘Readability’ is not above Grade 10.
