Against a grand, historic backdrop, survivors attempt to find their place in the aftermath of the Russian Revolution. Some are genuine adherents to the cause, while others struggle with their so-called freedoms. Anya, an innocent street sweeper, who has no memory of her past, gets caught up in an elaborate plot to impersonate the imperial Princess Anastasia Romanov. Risking her life, she fights to uncover long-forgotten secrets. Featuring waltzes, Broadway-style ballads, and flourishes of folk music, this production stars on-stage performers, an orchestra and a backstage crew comprised of students from Year 8 to Year 12. It contrasts the good times with the bad and makes us ask why we want to believe in fairytales.
