Natalie Thomas with Erica McGilchrist | Selling Sunset

Selling Sunset is an exhibition by multidisciplinary artist, Natalie Thomas. It is made in response to the work and legacy of feminist artist and educator, Erica McGilchrist OAM (1926-2014). Creating 'renovations' of McGilchrist's work, Natalie examines the trend of unearthing, restoring and elevating under-represented artists.

Natalie’s work will be shown alongside McGilchrist’s, bringing to light their shared interests. Themes range from consumerism to environmentalism, urban development to emotion. Similarly, both artists work/ed using different mediums, and were never tied down to a particular style. McGilchrist could work on an abstract tapestry one day, to a figurative painting the next, which is echoed in Natalie’s practice.

A public program in partnership with the Women’s Art Register (W.A.R.) will be presented in February. McGilchrist co-founded  W.A.R.  in 1975 . It is the world’s longest surviving artist-led living archive of women and gender-diverse artists. The exhibition is timely as W.A.R. will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2025 with a number of projects and events.

This exhibition celebrates the long legacy and ongoing impact of McGilchrist's art and labour.
