Preston Symphony Orchestra Youth Concerto Competition

The annual Preston Symphony Orchestra Youth Concerto Competition is a dazzling showcase of some of Melbourne brightest young musicians. The competition is now in its 35th year, offering talented musicians aged 18 and under the opportunity to play a movement from a concerto with a full symphony orchestra.

This year’s finalists will display their musicianship and skill with instruments ranging from piano, violin, and cello, to bassoon and double bass; they have chosen works that feature composers Tchaikovsky, Mendelssohn, Weber, Koussevitzky and Shostakovich.

Each finalist participates in a schedule of rehearsals with the orchestra and Conductor Andrew Groch before the concert at which a winner is selected. For more information, please visit prestonsymphony.org.au.
