Something like a dream brings together surreal photographic and sculptural works from the Darebin Art Collection. The artists play with composition, layering, and costume to create scenes which subtly diverge from reality, entering the realm of the uncanny.   

The artists employ methods as simple as layering multiple images or as elaborate as carving up, painting and reassembling sculptures. Other works rely solely on chance encounters and framing, creating a collage-like effect which highlights strange and foreboding aspects of our everyday surroundings. 

Something like a dream playfully interrupts the continuity of time and place, addressing anxieties of the future and reimagining the past.
