jpg Fossils is a science-fiction inspired video installation by Corinna Berndt. The artwork poetically connects fragments from her digital archive.
This artwork is part of an ongoing project. In this version, Berndt explores personal attachment to saved files and photos. Through the work she considers how storing our digital files can harm the environment over time.
The exhibition envisions the digital realm as a kind of external collective memory. It reminds us that growing digital systems need natural resources to keep running. jpg Fossils re-imagines these systems for storing our personal data in the future.
Corinna Berndt is a visual artist, arts worker and educator based in Naarm / Melbourne. Her practice incorporates digital media, collage, poetry and sculpture, contemplating personal relationships with objects and technologies that are embedded in complex systems of discourse. Corinna holds a PhD from the Victorian College of the Arts. She has exhibited widely in Melbourne and interstate, in project spaces as well as in institutional and commercial galleries. Corinna is actively engaged in supporting local emerging artists and artist-run initiatives and recently started a collaborative, ongoing project that explores in-kind support within artist peer networks.
