Speakeasy Scratch Night: Mix Tape

Next date: Tuesday, 09 June 2026 | 07:00 PM to 09:00 PM

A pile of papers with black headphones lay on a desk.

Curated and hosted by Elbow Room

What art makes you want to make art?

Mix Tape is a scratch night which is themed 'love' - specifically, the music that inspires you to do your thing. A song that follows you around, an album you can't forget, a track that transports you to another time and place.

As always with Elbow Room, no holds are barred - irreverent, earnest, plain-spoken, obscure, absurd, all approaches are welcome, from individuals or teams. We only stipulate that:

  • you have a piece of music in mind, and;
  • you can say what it is, but we do not hear it until the end of the evening, when the performance turns into a party soundtracked by a special guest DJ playing your requests.

Each artist will have ten minutes to use however you’d like. Elbow Room have directors to help out, and actors (up to five) if you need them, or feel free to organise your own (if you’re sure that you can!).

What is a Scratch Night?

Speakeasy Scratch Nights are a new monthly sharing platform for artists to test out new works-in-development on a live and generous audience of likeminded artists. This is an open access, inclusive, messy, supportive and celebratory space for artists to take risks and connect across the community.

The Speakeasy Scratch Nights are hosted and curated by our Companies in Residence and other guest artists, with different themes and curatorial approaches each time.

Come along to experience live performance experiments and be part of our community of practice, or follow us on Instagram to find out how to get involved.
