Our second Darebin Arts Speakeasy Company in Residence, the voice in my hands (VIMH) are using their residency to think about utopias, and YOU are invited to be part of this imagining.
This community-centred scratch night of performance and conversation will focus on the provocation "something else" and what it might mean when considering the possible futures ahead of us. Our hope is to explore its potential in artmaking, storytelling and future-building through our featured artists and you, our audience.
These artists will each present a bite-sized work-in-progress that they've developed in response to this theme, which they want to share with kind eyes and smart brains to receive feedback and to spark generative conversations around new horizons that we might navigate together.
Please join us with an open heart and an open mind (and check out the Running Time info below for a breakdown of how the evening will be run).
Featured Something Else Artists: Olivia Staaf Bridget Webster, Bridie Noonan and Oscar O'Brien Max Bower

This is a night of works in progress. The content may include coarse language and adult themes.
This event will run for approximately two hours and will include a mix of performance excerpts, opportunities for silent reflection, and conversations between audience members facilitated by VIMH co-ADs Liv and Jules in response to the ideas presented around the provocation of "something else".
This framework of collective thinking that will be developed across the evening is strictly opt-in - if you just want to support a friend by sitting up the back, that's completely okay too!
There will be space to get up and move around, and to take breaks as and when you need.
Speakeasy Scratch Nights are a new monthly sharing platform for artists to test out new works-in-development on a live and generous audience of likeminded artists. This is an open access, inclusive, messy, supportive and celebratory space for artists to take risks and connect across the community.
The Speakeasy Scratch Nights are hosted and curated by our Companies in Residence, with different themes and curatorial approaches each time.
Come along to experience live performance experiments and be part of our community of practice, or follow us on Instagram to find out how to get involved.
