Presented by Mahia Furia and Darebin Arts

The Past, The Present, and The Future

In 2025, Māhia Furia made history as the youngest sole ball curator in Ballroom Oceania, curating the inaugural Phoenix Ball at just 19 years old. Now, in 2026, the vision is bigger, the love is stronger, and the Oracle herself returns to present Phoenix Ball II: The Past, The Present & The Future, a journey through time, art, and the reclamation of cultural excellence.

Coming less than a month after Naarm’s first ever mainstream function Sissy Ball 8: Doll House (produced by the founder of our city’s scene, Mother Kianna Louboutin Oricci), Mahia returns to reinforce and celebrate the beauty of trans talent, fem queen excellence, and BIPOC expression through the kiki scene with this carefully curated love letter to Naarm ballroom and all the intersectionalities within its community.

Enjoy a night of Queer POC excellence and take a dive into the world of ballroom, where tensions run high and the talent is unmatched. Whether you see it in voguing, fashion, or beauty, you will experience our homage to the Black and Latin trans women who pioneered the international phenomenon that is ballroom.

Join us at Northcote Town Hall Arts Centre on July 4, 2026, and leave informed, entertained, and inspired.

Arise from the flames,

and watch the ash fall.

Artist Bio

Māhia Furia is an Indigenous Māori interdisciplinary whakawāhine artist and a leader within the ballroom community of Naarm. She is the First Lady of the Kiki House of Furia and is recognised by her community as a beloved ball host, commentator, graphic designer, video editor, mixer, choreographer, and ballroom archivist. She is especially appreciated for her wide-ranging community service supporting young trans people both within and beyond the ballroom scene. In July 2025 at the age of 19, she curated her first official kiki ball, The Phoenix Ball, at Dancehouse Theatre — a landmark venue for the Naarm ballroom scene. Four months later, she received the Young Leader Award at the 2025 TGV Trans Visibility Awards. Today, her work is seen and felt throughout Naarm’s queer nightlife scene, with her art contributing to projects presented across the city. At just 20 years old, she holds the record as the youngest ball curator and panel judge of a large-scale ball in Oceania.
