Smocks & Hot Chocs
An artistic adventure for curious kids (with hot chocolate!)
Presented by Darebin FUSE Festival
Join us for a playful morning of painting, sipping and artistic discovery at Smocks & Hot Chocs; where little artists in the making will explore a creative project, while enjoying a delicious hot chocolate on a crisp Spring morning. Leading the workshop will be acclaimed visual artist, textile and fashion designer Arkie Barton (Kalkadunga and Bidjara).
Children will participate in a group activity where they recall a favourite memory—such as a beach day, time with friends, a walk, or playing with pets. They will explore how these memories make them feel and express this through colours, shapes, and energy. Creative expression will occur through collage, painting, and drawing. The aim is to connect with memory, place, and feeling.
Each child will create a memory feelings map to take home, helping them to remember and honour their emotions and sense of connection.
Smocks and art supplies provided. Hot chocolate included for each child ticket purchased.

As a proud Kalkadunga and Bidjara queer woman, her arts practice draws from her connection to land and culture to engage in cultural practice through multiple disciplines. Painting from age five, she has presented her work in many exhibitions, collaborations and public art ventures, building up to her current diversification of creative practice. Through further study and work experience, Arkie has developed a strong interest in how we can utilise art and creativity to support mental wellbeing and self determination within health and wellbeing spaces.
