Chapter Music founder Guy Blackman launches his long awaited new solo album Out Of Sight with a full band (including strings and horns) at Northcote Social Club on Thursday September 11, with support from Who Cares? and Matt Harkin.

Out of Sight is the final new artist release for Chapter Music, which is transitioning after 33 years to releasing the occasional reissue and looking after its back catalogue.

Out Of Sight is Guy’s first solo album in 17 years, a belated follow-up to his 2008 album Adult Baby. The album was recorded with Liam Parsons and Stefan Blair from Good Morning, and Liam Halliwell from Snowy Band, in London and Melbourne. Out Of Sight hides barbs of humour and hurt beneath its intricate arrangements and breezy soft rock. It features a duet with dashing Frenchman Julien Gasc (Stereolab, Aquaserge), and backing vocals from Sydney songwriting icon Laura Jean.

About the artist

Guy Blackman is one of the two driving forces behind Chapter Music, one of Australia's longest-running independent record labels, which he began in 1992 at the age of 17.

Guy is a songwriter’s songwriter. His deftly constructed songs deal frankly with issues of love, sexuality and commitment. If Serge Gainsbourg, Tim Hardin or Kevin Ayers wrote songs set in gay go-go bars or on adult camming websites, you might get close to an idea of Guy’s approach.

He has shared stages with Joanna Newsom, Bill Callahan, Vashti Bunyan, Stereolab, John Grant, Beach Fossils, Owen Pallett, Jens Lekman and others. As a member of bands Sleepy Township, Montero and Minimum Chips, he has supported Elliot Smith, Cat Power, Pavement, War On Drugs, Kurt Vile and more.
