Saturday Series: Textile Time!

This workshop is not your average crochet upcycling class. The free-form class encourages you to come in with your own materials and ideas, and the facilitator, Lexi, will guide you through the process of your project. You can also learn to make some funky objects like a rug or basket, and develop weaving, stitching, crochet skills and more.

This series is suitable for the uninitiated or the well-versed. Everyone will have something to learn and share!

Things that you might bring in for your project:

• an old item of clothing to be mended or revived
• unfinished projects, such as granny square blankets or a quilt
• any yarn or material to make into yarn

There will be a range of textiles and yarn provided on the day, to supplement what you bring. Lexi will bring in some of her own upcycled objects as examples and for inspiration. These workshops can be attended as one-offs, or you can work on projects over the course of the series. The atmosphere will be open, easygoing and will invite conversation between participants and Lexi.

About The Facilitator

Lexi Simmonds is a textile expert who works across tapestry, sewing, weaving and a range of other techniques. She brings her extensive knowledge and skills to people who want to learn new techniques or build on their existing ones. Sustainability is integral to what Lexi does, and she likes to innovate with new forms of recycled and upcycled textiles. Lexi teaches in a school and has worked on projects such as 'Home Sweet Home' with Mirka Mora and Bruce Petty at the Victorian Tapestry Workshop.
