Contemporary Lacemaking

Next date: Saturday, 02 May 2026 | 11:00 AM to 03:00 PM

Contemporary-Lacemaking.png
An introduction to the techniques and processes for making needle lace with Maggie Hensel-Brown.

Needle lace is a technique that dates back to the 16th century. It is richly detailed and holds centuries of stories, lives, and skills. It can also be modernized. The same stitches used across the centuries can be crafted into contemporary imagery.

Using a specially designed contemporary sampler, each participant will learn how to set up their piece, create a scaffolding of threads, and fill them in with a series of traditional lace stitches. Maggie will also guide you through how to make raised and detailed borders to finish off your piece.

Each participant will work on their own sampler and walk away with their own hand made piece of lace.

No experience required. All materials provided.
